TCR Announces Auditions for Disney and Pixar's Finding Nemo

TCR announces auditions for TCR’s 2026 Summer production of Disney and Pixar’s Finding Nemo, music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, book adapted by Lindsay Anderson.

Auditions will be held at Theatre Cedar Rapids Tuesday, May 5th from 6:30 - 9:00. Callbacks (acting/singing) and a group dance/movement call will be scheduled if needed.

Rehearsals will begin at the end of May/early June. Rehearsals will typically be held five days a week, including potential weekend days, dependent on cast availability. Not all cast will be called to all rehearsals.

  • Audition Dates/Times: Tuesday, May 5th, from 6:30-9:00. Callbacks (acting/singing) and a group dance/movement call will be scheduled if needed.
  • VIDEO SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED: Video submissions will be accepted until 11:00 pm on Monday, May 4th. Email your song submission to madi.knaack@theatrecr.org or upload the link in the audition form.
  • Fill out an AUDITION FORM HERE (REQUIRED)
  • Sign up for an AUDITION SLOT HERE (REQUIRED) 
  • On audition day: Arrive at the TCR lobby at least 10 minutes before your scheduled audition time, and you will be directed to the audition space. You can leave after you are finished with your audition slot.
  • WHAT TO PREPARE:
    • Prepare part of a song: Prepare 1 minute of a song from the style of the show. Sing something that showcases you and your talent and range. It is permitted to sing a song from the show.
    • Bring track accompaniment: Bring an accompaniment track on your phone to connect to our bluetooth speaker. No acapella auditions, please.  

Finding Nemo will be directed by Jacob Kilburg, choreographed by Ellen Welch, with music direction by Brandon Burkhardt.

Finding Nemo follows Marlin, an anxious and over-protective clownfish who lives in the Great Barrier Reef with his kid Nemo. When Nemo is captured and taken to Sydney, Marlin faces his fears and sets off on an epic odyssey across the ocean. With the help of lovable characters such as optimistic Dory, laid-back sea turtle Crush, and the supportive Tank Gang, Marlin and Nemo both overcome challenges on their journey to find each other and themselves.

Finding Nemo will be presented at Brucemore, July 10th - July 26th, 2026. Performances take place Wed - Sun at 6:30 pm. 

The creative team seeks a diverse company of actors ages 12+. Actors of all ethnicities and gender identities will be equally considered for all roles. 

Actor 1: Nemo. A curious young clownfish, born with a "lucky fin", who brims with a sense of wonder and an eagerness for adventure. Vocal range: Alto.

Actor 2: Marlin. Nemo's anxious and overprotective father, a clownfish who prefers the safety of his anemone to the unknowns of the open ocean. Gender: male-presenting; Vocal range: Baritone. 

Actor 3: Dory. An optimistic, bubbly, and sociable blue tang who experiences frequent short-term memory loss. Sheldon’s Parent. Gender: female-presenting; Vocal range: Alto.

Actor 4: Pearl: one of the Reef Kids, an excitable and friendly flapjack octopus. Anchor: one of Bruce's loyal cronies, a tough shark devoted to the "fish are friends" lifestyle. Peach: A mature, down-to-earth starfish who offers guidance and reassurance to all; a member of the Tank Gang. Squirt: A young adventurous sea turtle, Ensemble (Moonfish, Jellyfish, others). Vocal range: Alto.

Actor 5: Sheldon: one of the Reef Kids, an H2O-intolerant seahorse with an appetite for trouble. Chum: One of Bruce's loyal cronies, a determined shark committed to the "fish are friends" lifestyle. Bloat: An open-minded and supportive blowfish who is proud to be part of the Tank Gang. Ensemble (Moonfish, Jellyfish, Sea Turtle, others). Vocal range: Tenor.

Actor 6: Tad: one of the Reef Kids, a self-admittedly obnoxious butterflyfish. Crush: A laid-back and encouraging 150-year-old sea turtle who knows how to hang loose. Nigel: A friendly, sharp-eyed Australian pelican who is proud to know all the local happenings of Sydney Harbour. Ensemble (Moonfish, Jellyfish, Sea Turtle, others). Vocal range: Tenor.

Actor 7: Coral: Nemo's brave mom and Marlin's wife, strong and loving. Tad’s Parent. Gurgle: A nervous royal gramma fish who enjoys regulated cleanliness; a member of the tank gang. Ensemble (Moonfish, Jellyfish, Sea Turtle, others). Vocal range: Alto.

Actor 8: Professor Ray: Nemo's enthusiastic, encyclopedic stingray teacher. Bruce: The intimidating ringleader of the sharks who is dedicated to adopting a vegetarian diet. Gill: The relentless and inspiring Moorish idol fish and leader of the Tank Gang, with a set of battle scars and a torn fin, who will stop at nothing to return to the freedom of the ocean. Ensemble (Moonfish, Jellyfish, Sea Turtle, others). Vocal range: Tenor/Baritone.

TCR cast/crew members over 16 are offered an honoraria of $25/$20 (respectively) per performance.

TCR casts, crew, and creative teams primarily reside in or have ties to our regional community and are non-union.
