New to Auditioning at TCR?
Whether this is your first audition or fiftieth, we want you to know what to expect. TCR welcomes performers with a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels, and previous TCR experiences is never required unless specifically noted in a casting announcement.
Every production is different, so we publish an individual audition announcement with the information you'll need to decide whether an opportunity is right for you and prepare for your audition.

How Auditions Work
In the Audition Room
For musicals, some productions include a dance or movement call. The casting notice will explain what to expect, what to wear, whether previous dance experience is necessary, and who should participate.
No intimacy, staged violence, or sensitive physical contact will be required during initial auditions unless clearly communicated in advance.

Every performer who attends auditions will hear from TCR twice: once to let you know whether you're needed at callbacks (if they're being held), and again after final casting decisions have been made.Â
Official audition and casting communication comes from the TCR Production Team. If you have a question about your audition or casting status, please contact auditions@theatrecr.org rather than reaching out to individual members of the creative team.
Our Approach to Casting
When a character's identity is essential to the story or explicitly established in the script, TCR and the creative team are committed to casting that role as authentically as possible. For roles where identity is not central to the storytelling, casting decisions are based on each performer's ability to bring the character and the production's artistic vision to life.
Unless otherwise noted in an individual casting notice, all roles are open.
Characters as Written
Rehearsals & Performance Commitments
TCR productions are created by volunteer performers balancing theatre with work, school, family, and other commitments. We build rehearsal schedules around the needs of each production and the availability and conflicts disclosed by the cast.
Rehearsals generally take place during evenings and weekends, but not every performer is called to every rehearsal. Most cast members can expect two or more days without rehearsal during a typical week, though some portions of the process may require more concentrated calls.
Performers should disclose all known conflicts during registration so the production team can build the rehearsal schedule accordingly. If an unavoidable absence arises during the process, we'll work with performers on an appropriate plan to catch up.
Technical rehearsals generally take place the weekend before opening, with dress rehearsals beginning Monday of opening week. Performers should plan to be available for all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances unless otherwise noted in the production's casting notice. Performance conflicts generally cannot be accommodated.

Performances: 18–20 performances across 4–6 weeks
Grandon Studio Theatre Productions
Performances: 15–18 performances across 4–5 weeks
Honoraria
Cast: $25 per performance
Crew: $20 per performance

Content, Intimacy & Staged Violence
We want performers to have the information they need to make informed choices about the productions and roles for which they audition.
When a production includes significant mature content, intimacy, staged violence, weapons, or other sensitive physical material, the casting notice will identify relevant content and participation considerations. When particular roles involve material beyond what someone might reasonably anticipate from the general production information, we’ll identify that whenever possible as part of the casting process.
TCR uses qualified intimacy and/or fight professionals when appropriate. Intimacy, staged violence, and other sensitive physical contact are choreographed and rehearsed with clear boundaries.
Performers will not be asked to improvise intimate contact or staged violence.
If you are offered a role involving significant participation considerations, you’ll have an opportunity to understand those expectations before accepting.

TCR wants every performer to have an equitable opportunity to audition and participate.

Note: Our venues are non-equity and we are a volunteer-based community theatre. TCR is unable to provide housing or travel assistance. Performers are responsible for transportation to and from auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
We expect our volunteer performers to have lives outside the theatre and build rehearsal schedules with disclosed conflicts in mind. Having rehearsal conflicts does not automatically prevent you from being cast.
Some dates—particularly technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances—have stricter attendance requirements. Check the individual casting notice carefully before registering.
