Planned Giving

PLANNING YOUR LEGACY WITH THEATRE CEDAR RAPIDS

Planned giving is a way of supporting a nonprofit organization that allows you to make a larger gift than you could otherwise make from your annual income.  Donors usually consider a current gift to Theatre Cedar Rapids as a way to offer support now. To make a planned gift (sometimes called a deferred gift), a person decides to give at some future date, either a number of years from now or at death. It can by done in many ways from as simple as naming TCR a beneficiary in your will or life insurance policy to establishing more complicated financial instruments such as gift annuities or a charitable remainder trust.  Regardless of how it’s done, a planned gift is a present decision to make a future gift. By making a planned gift, you are ensuring that Theatre Cedar Rapids will continue to provide the community with a variety of entertainment options, enrich volunteer opportunities and educate in theatre programming for years to come.

How will TCR use your gift?
An unrestricted gift allows TCR to determine the use of a donor’s estate gift.  TCR may choose to purchase equipment, support a program, expand the staff, add to the endowment, balance the fiscal year’s operational budget, or any number of immediate needs at the time of the gift.

With a restricted gift, the donor stipulates a specific purpose for the estate gift: endowment, capital improvements to the building, scholarships, an endowed position on the staff, or other needs important to the donor.

The size and intent of your gift is up to you and donors making a planned gift become permanent members of The Encore Society!

While some planned gifts provide a life-long income to the donor, others use estate and tax planning techniques to provide for a charity and other heirs in ways that maximize the gift amount or minimize the negative impact on the donor’s estate.

The information provided here is intended only as an overview of gift options. We look forward to working with you and your legal or financial advisors and welcome all inquiries. Please notify us if you have already designated TCR in your estate plans.

“For more than 35 years, Theatre Cedar Rapids has been a special place for me.  I have been blessed with diverse and meaningful opportunities at TCR: actor, costume assistant, guest director, Development Director, a Board of Directors member, an annual and capital campaign donor, and Trustee.  I have watched TCR grow from a small group of devoted volunteers and one paid director in the former Strand Theatre to one of the top five community theatres in the nation.

After so much history with and passion for Theatre Cedar Rapids, it was easy for me to decide to include TCR in my estate plans.  By doing so, I want TCR to be available and vital for tomorrow’s performers, musicians, technicians, volunteers, and audiences.  I hope other lovers of live theater in the near and distant future will learn and grow in the arts, provide spectacular performances for appreciative audiences, and contribute to a vibrant and robust community.

Please consider including TCR in your estate plans insuring a solid financial future for this valuable community asset into perpetuity.”
