Workshop Series: Scenic Design for Theater (16+)

An introduction to the elements of scene design and practical considerations to scenic elements and staging. Through a series of exercises, you will gain a knowledge of design concept, staging conventions, and scenic composition.
CHRIS RICH is a theatre designer and technical director with over twenty years’ professional and academic experience. He was an Associate Professor of Design and Technology at Troy University in Alabama for sixteen years, where he oversaw over a hundred productions of theatre, dance, and community works. He is the recipient of the Marian Galloway Award for Contributions to Theatre in Alabama and the national winner of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Special Achievement Recognition for Lighting and Sound Design for his work on Troy University’s Two Rooms. He is actively involved with the Southeastern Theatre Conference and has served as a respondent to work for the Kennedy Center, Mississippi Theatre Association, Florida Theatre Conference, Tennessee Theatre Association, Texas Theatre Association, and Georgia Theatre Conference. He earned his MFA in Lighting Design & Technical Direction from the University of Alabama. Chris is currently based in Iowa City and has been working with Theatre Cedar Rapids, Riverside Theatre, and Pyramid Theatre in Iowa.
