Let’s Get LIT!: “The Elephant Man” (Ages: 21+)
April 24 @ 5:30 pm| $5
Join us on NEW DATE APRIL 24th for a lively discussion of the play “The Elephant Man,” by Bernard Pomerance. This highly theatrical exploration of identity and human connection is inspired by Joseph Merrick, a real Victorian-era man who received a great deal of attention and publicity due to his physical appearance. Winner of the Tony award for Best Play in 1979, “The Elephant Man” continues to be widely produced across the United States.
Take a deep dive into “The Elephant Man” with Let’s Get LIT! in preparation for TCR’s production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” another deeply moving story featuring a protagonist whose life and relationships are profoundly impacted by his physical appearance. We will discuss the parallels of how these characters struggle to have their humanity recognized, and more.
Let’s Get LIT! is TCR’s monthly book-club for plays. Led by writer, director, and educator Cavan Hallman, attendees of this program read the script before meeting for a casual guided discussion. This is a great program for people looking to expand their knowledge of outstanding plays, increase their theatrical vocabulary, and anyone else who loves plays and literature!
