Nearly 100 years ago, Midwest native and film industry veteran Calvin Bard opened the Iowa Theatre Building in Cedar Rapids with a near singular focus: great views from each and every comfortable seat. 

It’s been 45 years since TCR made the Iowa Theatre our home, and in 2026 we are doing right by our founder’s vision: we’re bringing you a refresh of The Best Seat in Town!

Our upcoming capital renovation will include brand new auditorium seating: and your $5,000 gift will honor a loved one or legacy in a space meant for shared stories and standing ovations. The historic, ornamental cast iron ends of the seats will be restored and remain as markers of each row, joined by new wooden armrests and a more comfortably immersing experience.
