TCR Announces Auditions for Little Shop of Horrors

TCR announces video auditions for the 2025 Summer production of Little Shop of Horrors, music by Alan Menken, book and lyrics by Howard Ashman. 

Auditions will be accepted by video submission only. Callbacks and dance call will be held on Wednesday, February 12th from 6:00-10:00.

Rehearsals will begin in May. Rehearsals will typically be held five days a week, including potential weekend days dependent on cast availability. Not all cast will be called to all rehearsals. 

This production will be directed by Angie Toomsen, with music direction by Janelle Lauer, choreography by Megan Helmers, costumes by Jess Helberg, and scenic and lighting by S. Benjamin Farrar.

  • WHAT TO PREPARE:
    • Prepare part of a song. Prepare about a one minute of a song from the show or in the style of the show. Please sing a song from the show if you strongly prefer a particular character. Make bold choices and give us your take unique take on the roles. As stated in character descriptions, please do not imitate well know takes on these roles. Have fun!
  • Casting timeline We will be in contact with all auditioners by February 11th regarding callbacks.

ABOUT TCR’S PRODUCTION OF LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Little Shop of Horrors will be directed by Angie Toomsen, choreographed by Megan Helmers, with music direction by Janelle Lauer, costumes by Jess Helberg, scenic and lighting design by S. Benjamin Farrar.

The humble floral assistant Seymour Krelborn, stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” – after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivorous alien promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

Little Shop of Horrors will be presented in the TCR Auditorium, June 27th – July 27th, 2025. Performances take place Thu – Sat at 7:30 p.m., and Sun at 2:30 p.m. There is a potential for added shows within the span of the currently scheduled run (no weekends added).

Honoraria: TCR cast/crew members over 16 are offered an honoraria of $25/$20 (respectively) per performance.

Out-of-Town Actors, Please Note: TCR casts, crew, and creative teams primarily reside in our regional community and are non-union. We only provide housing and alternate rates in extremely specific circumstances.

Content Advisory: Dark humor, mild adult language, depiction of/allusion to domestic violence, mild adult language, stylized, theatrical depictions of violence.

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS ROLES AVAILABLE

The creative team seeks a diverse company of actors. Actors of all ethnicities will be equally considered for all roles, though actors of color are preferred for Audrey II and the Urchins. Actor ages are flexible. 

Mr. Mushnik: Male Identifying. The seasoned owner of the failing East Side flower shop and Seymour’s nosy boss. He is profit-driven, greedy, and manipulative, with a soft side. Age range: 55 to 65. Vocal Range: F4 – G2  

The Plant (Audrey II): Preferably female Identifying but can be cast with any gender. Vocal Range: G4 – G2, will be adjusted for the actor cast in the role. The plant/alien will be designed in such a way that the performer will be visible/humanoid in certain points. The performer playing this role will not puppeteer the plant though may move elements as part of the costume.

Chiffon: Female Identifying, can be played by any gender. Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are street urchins, acting as the storytellers throughout the show. They sing and appear more than any other characters and are almost always present. Young, hip, and smart, they are the only ones who have a grip on reality. Age range: 20 to 35. Vocal Range: F5 – Ab3 

Crystal: Female Identifying, can be played by any gender. Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are street urchins, acting as the storytellers throughout the show. They sing and appear more than any other characters and are almost always present. Young, hip, and smart, they are the only ones who have a grip on reality. Age range: 20 to 35. Vocal Range: F5 – Ab3 

Ronnette: Female Identifying, can be played by any gender. Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are street urchins, acting as the storytellers throughout the show. They sing and appear more than any other characters and are almost always present. Young, hip, and smart, they are the only ones who have a grip on reality. Age range: 20 to 35. Vocal Range: F5 – Ab3 

Seymour Krelborn: Male Identifying. An insecure, put-upon florist’s clerk and eventual hero. He is a genuine, well-meaning man who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and poor social skills. Age range: 25 – 35. Vocal Range: G4 – A2 PLEASE DO NOT IMITATE WELL-KNOWN TAKES ON THIS ROLE. Bring your own Seymour!

Audrey: Female Identifying. Bleached-blond, Billie-Dawn-like, secret love of Seymour’s life. She has poor self-worth and little education, but takes pride in her looks and style and possesses and giant heart with a sweet and vulnerable demeanor. Age range: 25 to 35. Vocal Range: D5 – G#3 Very strong belt. PLEASE DO NOT IMITATE WELL-KNOWN TAKES ON THIS ROLE. Though she is iconic, no Ellen Greene imitations, please. Bring an Audrey all your own!

Orin Scrivello: Male Identifying. An egotistical dentist with a passion for leather and sadistic tendencies. Audrey’s cruel boyfriend. Really delivers in the dark humor department Age range: 30 to 40. Vocal Range: G4 – G2
