TCR announces open auditions for Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus, directed by Patrick Du Laney opening May 29th, 2025 in TCR’s Grandon Studio.
ABOUT AMADEUS
1820’s Vienna: the rock-and-roll capitol of the classical musical world. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, an exuberant and uncontrollable genius, lands on the scene ready to set the world on fire. Thunderstruck by Mozart’s unsurpassable talent, composer Antonio Salieri is seized with obsessive envy, waging war on the art, the artist, and with God.
“A total iridescent triumph of complexity of thought, emotion and dramatic power.” — New York Post

ABOUT REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES
Rehearsals begin in April, though there may begin sporadic sessions sooner, based on cast availabilty. Rehearsals will typically be held five days per week, scheduled on weeknights and potentially one weekend day, to be determined based on cast availability and conflicts. Tech rehearsal will take place on the Sunday before opening (May 25th, 2025). Attendance at all tech and dress rehearsals is mandatory.
Performances take place May 29 – June 22, 2025. See all ticketed performance dates here. Performances will likely be added as this show already has sold out shows and dates with limited availability. Exact dates pending cast availability.
Actors can receive a volunteer honoraria of $25 per performance for all ticketed shows and any additional performances. TCR will supply meals for longer rehearsal days and any two-show days (if applicable). Each cast member will receive two comp tickets, a show t-shirt, and drink tickets / catered meal at the opening night celebration in the Linge Lounge. Volunteers are not required to strike.

WHAT TO PREPARE
Please prepare to read the audition sides available below. Amadeus is a world of social and political intrigue, sex and, of course, music. Nearly all of the characters in the play have a high social status, and that status should be reflected in your vocal and physical choices. The play is fast and verbal.
There are no dialects required for the auditions, so please don’t plan to bring one. If your text includes Italian, please know what it means. It is not required that you play a musical instrument, but if you do, please note it on your audition form, along with what you play and your proficiency.
Most importantly, please come in to have fun. Seriously. Actors are always at their best when they’re having fun! There is a possibility that male-identified characters will be cast across all gender lines, so please prepare the sides you feel best suits the role you’d like to play.
