TCR announces open auditions for Sarah Delappe’s The Wolves, directed by Katy Hahn, opening April 10th, 2025 in TCR’s Grandon Studio.
ABOUT THE WOLVES
Written by Sarah DeLappe. 2017 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Drama and winner of the 2015 Relentless Award for Playwriting
Left quad. Right quad. Lunge. A girls’ indoor soccer team warms up. From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals.
“The scary, exhilarating brightness of raw adolescence emanates from every scene of this uncannily assured first play by Sarah DeLappe.” – The New York Times
Content Advisory: This play includes discussions of sexual violence, suicide, mass genocide, eating disorders, death, and other adult themes.
ABOUT REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES
Rehearsals officially begin March 3, 2025. Rehearsals will typically be held five days per week, scheduled on weeknights and potentially one weekend day, to be determined based on cast availability and conflicts. Tech rehearsal will take place on the Sunday before opening (April 6, 2025). Attendance at all tech and dress rehearsals is mandatory.
We may potentially hold “soccer practices” before the official start of rehearsals, pending cast availability.
Performances take place April 10th – May 4th, 2025. See all ticketed performance dates here. Some performances may be added, with exact dates pending cast availability.
Actors can receive a volunteer honoraria of $25 per performance for all ticketed shows and any additional performances. TCR will supply meals for longer rehearsal days and any two-show days (if applicable). Each cast member will receive two comp tickets, a show t-shirt, and drink tickets / catered meal at the opening night celebration in the Linge Lounge. Volunteers are not required to strike.

WHAT TO PREPARE
Don’t “dress up.” Wear comfortable clothing and footwear in which you can move. The characters in this play are teenage soccer players warming up before their games on Saturdays in winter. They are juniors in high school in the mid-2010s. The only character who is not a teenager is a soccer mom who is there to watch the games.
Please prepare to read sides from the script. We will provide printed sides at the audition, and you may be asked to read more than one character’s lines. If the director offers adjustments or asks you to do something again, it is not a judgment on your first attempt, but rather an effort to see how you take direction.
This play calls for a highly naturalistic acting style. The audience is made to feel like they are flies on the wall, watching real teenage girls practice soccer and talk about life.
We will have a soccer ball and orange cones at the auditions. The director will invite you to try a few simple ball-handling moves. Actors are encouraged to demonstrate any additional soccer tricks or skills they have learned. Other feats of athleticism are also welcome. Don’t be shy!
