FROM THE DIRECTING TEAM:
Thank you to everyone who auditioned. There is so much talent in this community! To those not cast, please continue to audition in the future. We had to make some really tough decisions. Cast, please accept your role by 5:00 p.m. January 15th by emailing lisa.kelly@theatrecr.org. We will be in touch about a date in late January/early February for a read-through and orientation and will start regular rehearsals on March 9th. FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR:
We are thrilled to be among the first amateur theatres in the nation to present Kinky Boots. This show has a very positive and powerful message about acceptance and community. It was important to us – and taken under advisement from industry professionals close to the Broadway production and local advocacy contacts – that Lola be portrayed by a prominent local drag performer of color who both has a strong musical theater background, and who is willing to be a subject matter expert and advocate of the drag community. We were thrilled that Cameron (Nevae Love) was open to auditioning for the directing team this past summer, and that he accepted his role as a volunteer cast member, which was announced in July. Cameron is also a part of the creative team, serving as drag consultant for the production (a role similar to fight choreographer or dialect coach that may be engaged for any TCR show), offering expertise to the directing team, cast, costumers, and producing organization.
I have no doubt our cast and community is going to be inspired, energized, and learn a great deal from this collaboration.
