Janelle and I were overwhelmed by the amount of talent at this audition. Turning away some of the area’s best and most beloved performers – in addition to new folks who came on strong or even killed it – is not fun. With only 11 positions to fill, Gentleman’s Guide is a pretty taut puzzle. We weighed voice type, tone, how far a head start you’d have on dialects, how your voices would fit together, facility with multiple roles (both for the the D’Ysquiths and the ensemble), and a host of other factors. Personally, I am very honored each and every one of you auditioned, including many new people, some fantastic Coralville and Iowa City folks, some lovely people who we haven’t seen at auditions for a while, and many others we admire and adore. You almost made me want to quick switch musicals to something that would allow us to cast many more of you. Come back again please.
