In “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” audience members are recruited to compete onstage. So we recruited a bunch of special guests from all over Eastern Iowa for this video. As kids go back to school this fall, Theatre Cedar Rapids is headed there too. “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will be in session on the TCR stage Sept. 10 through Oct. 2. The Tony Award-winning musical comedy will also be the featured presentation at the theater’s season-kickoff Gala Sept. 10.

Please make sure that people know how hard this decision was. Without exception, those called back could have been cast in the show and been brilliant. Unfortunately, there were only nine roles available. Like we said after general auditions, we hope that people will come back. There was a ton of talent this go-around, and there are some great opportunities for all of you.

We’re getting ready to celebrate our first full season back downtown with our Season Kick-Off Gala -- and we want you to join us! The Gala, featuring opening night of 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, will take place Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 beginning at 6 p.m.
Join us for this fun-filled event where you can participate in a silent auction in the “Teacher’s Lounge,” enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the “Principal’s Office,” or get your “class photo” taken as a souvenir, complete with glasses and other props.
