TCR Underground Festival Submission Guide

Post

Some of you may remember Theatre Cedar Rapids’ Second Season.  Maybe you even got to see some of the work that was produced, including I’m Not Rappaport, Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll, NOIZ, or Iowa Stories.  Many have been asking, “When will it come back?” and, “I have a great idea, when will we get to do Second Season again?”

The time has come.  It’s undergone some changes, much like most other aspects of Theatre Cedar Rapids; and we hope they’re for the better.  The first change – the name.  TCR Underground is the new name of the Second Season program.  The name comes primarily from the fact that the season will be performed in the new Grandon Studio in the basement of the Iowa Theater Building, but hints at the nature of the season – underground, exciting, off the beaten path.

Another big change, we’re holding a festival.  A weekend festival of one acts competing for the chance to represent Theatre Cedar Rapids at the State Community Theatre Festival.  The Underground Festival isn’t until November, but the time to prepare is now; we can accept up to fifteen submissions.  Plays and musicals are welcome, one acts or cuttings from full-length plays; this is the chance to direct, act, stage manage, design, or crew a volunteer‑run show.

UPDATED! The Submission Guide for the new
TCR Underground Festival is now available:

SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JULY 15: The deadline for submissions was July 1, but several people have asked for more time to prepare. So we’ve extended the deadline to July 15.

If the Submission Guide leaves you with unanswered questions, festival inquiries can be directed to Erica Hoye via e‑mail, erica at theatrecr.org.  Submissions may be made via email (to erica at theatrecr.org) or in person (drop off in the box office).
